Arnold McMillan, CEO and Executive Partner, Toronto, ON, Canada

Arnold McMillan is CEO and a founder of SENTINEL Waste International Ltd. Arnold has in excess of 48 years in engineering and development expertise, primarily in executive roles. His time in the engineering/consulting business was spent primarily in the mechanical and electrical engineering sectors.

Arnold started his engineering career in the United Kingdom, prior to emigrating to Canada, where, over his initial ten years, he became an Associate Partner in a large Toronto based Consulting Engineering Company, and eventually had responsibility for the entire Production department. Arnold also became a senior part of management of the company’s operations in their UK based company, responsible for Mechanical/Electrical design and architectural/structural coordination in projects totalling in excess of 6 million sq. ft., most specifically in the London area.

Arnold started his own Engineering Company in 1984, with two other partners. In 1993, he made a strategic move to development, which he has fostered over the last 26 years. Within that period he assisted as one of three founders of SENTINEL and was instrumental in pursuing various financial sector developers to participate in the first SENTINEL Pellet Plant, in the Toronto area (the Dongara facility). He has been the driving force in the refining and development of the SENTINEL technology and has been directly involved in all efforts to further the technology’s use worldwide. SENTINEL is currently pursuing several international projects in locations in Europe, Asia and Middle East.

Arnold successfully developed an agreement with one of the largest financial sectors within the Middle East, and with his partners has been working with them to establish several locations in the regions noted above, with several under discussion at this time.

Arnold led the design and construction efforts during the development of the Dongara facility in the City of Vaughan, responsible for all discussions with the authorities, including finalization of the C of A with the Ministry of Environment. He was responsible for assigning all contracts to Vendors, Consultants and Contractors for the project, as well as finalizing contracts for all process equipment. He was on-site during all construction projects, as well as directly responsible for the negotiation of all process equipment, and construction contracts.

Arnold has worked directly as a Consultant to some of the larger Pension Funds, in Canada and beyond, assisting in discovery and development of energy related projects.

Arnold is directly involved in other development projects, outside of waste to energy, in an investor coordination role, to ensure design development and capital are aligned. Project size is in the USD$billions+ level, and will have the responsibility to coordinate the required Owner’s Engineering and Financial input, back to the investors, as development proceeds in to construction and operations.

 


Karim Kassam, Executive Partner, Managing Director International Business

Karim Kassam is an Executive Partner and the Managing Director International Business to promote SENTINEL’s interest globally.  Karim Kassam brings over twenty-five years of worldwide experience in the business development arena, from his previous role as Prescient’s President and CEO. Karim Kassam had developed a clear and differentiated strategy for Prescient that focused on client centric solutions based on understanding the client’s future needs and developing technology solutions years before their time for implementation now.  Under Karim Kassam’s guidance, technology is transformed into business enabling solutions that support the client’s needs to enhance their bottom-line performance.

Karim Kassam went on to work as a consultant with various members of the Qatar Royal Family as a Client Representative managing their large-scale projects and advising them on strategies for expansion. Working in different spaces and an excellent understanding on finance, construction, technology, processes and engineering.

Karim Kassam has worked with both Arnold McMillan and David Bellamy in forging relationships with various country and City administrations within India, Pakistan and the Middle East and foresees various projects proceeding to design over the coming months.

Karim Kassam brings diversity to SENTINEL and is instrumental in our overall strategy in global expansion.


David C Bellamy, P. Eng., MBA, Executive Partner, SENTINEL Waste International Ltd & MCW Group of Companies, Toronto, ON, Canada

David Bellamy is the President and Executive Partner for the MCW Group of Companies, which include MCW Consultants Ltd, MCW Custom Energy Solutions Ltd., and MCW International Inc. and works out of MCW’s Toronto office. MCW has in excess of 450 employees, with offices across Canada, with an office in the USA and London, England. David has over thirty (30) years of experience in mechanical, electrical, process and energy management design.  David Bellamy worked closely with Arnold McMillan in setting up SENTINEL, and worked very closely with the investors for Dongara. He was intimately involved with all aspects of the development and design engineering related to the SENTINEL Waste reference plant (the Dongara Pellet Plant). David Bellamy is also an Executive Partner in SENTINEL, and is closely linked to all worldwide development for the future of SENTINEL.

 


Darren T Soanes, MBA, C.DIR., Director of Structured Development

Darren Soanes has been involved in various fields from investor relations, to strategic business opportunities and marketing. Darren Soanes has been significantly involved in infrastructure, private equity and venture capital investing, directly responsible for finalizing financial structuring of such dealings.

Darren is proficient in multidisciplinary due diligence processes, targeting multi-million dollar global mergers, acquisitions and development in the public and private sectors. During his time with Borealis, he held several board positions for specific Borealis/OMERS projects, including sitting as Chairman of the Board for Dongara Pellet Plant LP; Director, The Detroit River Tunnel Partnership, Asset Manager and observer to the Board of Porter Airlines, as a sample of his dedication to projects that have been capitalized and-or in process.

Darren Soanes has had direct involvement in all levels of project analysis, and completion tasks related to them, including investor negotiations and legal work required to complete any transaction.

Darren Soanes participated in all levels of development of the EnerPax+ process, involved in both financial and engineering solutions. He has a fluent understanding of the benefits of using the EnerPax+ pellet as an alternate fuel to coal and other fossil fuels. He is directly responsible for structured development plans regarding future project development under way in locations such as Asia and the Middle East.


Chuck J. Tyburk, Project Director Senior Mechanical Engineer

Chuck Tyburk has more than 40 years’ experience in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of a wide range of power generating projects, including combustion turbine combined cycle plants, and in particular several Waste to Energy projects. In addition, he has secured power purchase agreements, fuel supply agreements, EPC contracts, equipment supply agreements, and will be directly responsible with MCW for the overall implementation of the entire power island, working with HTI as the SENTINEL/MCW lead coordinator for those works.


Chengjie (Chris) Zhang, P. Eng., Director of Product Development

Chris Zhang is an Ontario Professional Engineer with in excess of thirty (30) years of experience in teaching, researching, engineering, operation and management, as well as formulation and processing of MSW, ICI, Commercial Waste, Plastics Engineering and R&D. He has hands-on experiment, formulations, machine operation, processing control, mechanical design, QC/QA, prevent maintenance, project management, operation, and engineering management. Chris was involved in waste palletization, for use in making roof shingles, outdoor furniture, and other products at one of Toronto’s largest waste plastic recycling to production companies in Ontario. He joined the SENTINEL/Dongara team in 2007.

His strength lies in combining the basic concepts of science and engineering with experience and creativity, to effectively improve product quality and increase productivity. He has good interpersonal and communication skills, combined with being a team player, enabling close working relationships with people from all levels of operations, from product development to production, as well as providing support and leadership. Chris’ primary responsibilities engage the overall chemistry and calorific value of pellets produced, while maintaining fuel standards set by a specific customer.

Caron McMillan, Partner SENTINEL Waste International Ltd., Toronto, ON, Canada

Caron McMillan is a partner in SENTINEL, with primary focus on equipment design progression, and the company’s approach to training of operating personnel. She is responsible for decision-making in establishment and operation of equipment processes, is a skilled facilitator and negotiator in many different contexts with a variety of interest groups. Has a clear understanding of the complexity of varied stakeholders and the need to achieve consensus among diverse interests.

Caron McMillan was involved in the original plant design, and was on-site, assisting the coordination between design and construction throughout the build-out of the Dongara facility in Vaughan. She has been the main contact with all equipment vendors through the first 6 years of the facility, responsible for all design adjustments during that time. She has also been deeply involved in the next generation of design for future plants, including directing equipment vendors regarding changes desired by SENTINEL to standard equipment models.

Caron McMillan remained involved on the operation floor during the first six years of plant operation, assisting in the writing of Operational Procedures, as well as personnel training.

She will also continue that role when next generation plants are ready for operational cycles.
